Oops! I (we) did it again……
Britney Spears did not sing that for BayCC Reds but who cares….
BayCC Reds beat one of the top teams in SRCA, Piccadily Pacers today. Piccadily had won 4 out of the 5 games they had played so far in the tournament. They came in looking high and mighty, filled with confidence and we came in knowing that losing was not an option. A lost game would have thrown us out of the tournament….and then we would have to listen to our Captains lecture about how and where we messed up:)
On a windy day, the BayCC Reds captain, Imran Rizvi lost a toss that he badly wanted to win. We knew that the team batting first would have an advantage since the strong wind would help in carrying their shots.
Overall, BayCC Reds bowling was decent. We did not let the Piccadily batsmen dominate our bowling and kept chipping into their wickets consistently. At the end of 10 overs, Piccadily were 44 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. They seemed to be set for a big score. During the last 10 overs, BayCC Reds restricted the flow of runs and bowled the opposition out for 85 runs. From the bowling side, Ali Hussaini was the pick of the bowlers with great support from Saami, Adnan, Zarak and Aizaz. BayCC Reds fielding looked better than the last few games. Some great catches were taken by Zeeshan (one handed catch behind the stumps and 2 catches on the boundary), Imran Rizvi, one handed catch in the covers and Zarak, a great diving catch on the boundary. Aizaz, as usual was very effective behind the wickets, again stading up to the stumps, even on Saami’s bowling.
Facing a target of 86, against a good bowling attack, BayCC Red openers, Fayyaz and Adnan were sent in to bat by the captain with the instructions to ‘go on sensible offensive’. Our openers started slow and struggled to score runs off of some good pace bowling from the Piccadily bowlers. At the end of 4 overs, BayCC Reds had scored 6 runs at the loss of 1 wicket. Things did not look good. You could feel the desperation in this ‘do or die game’ from the fact that Showkat and Kareem were smoking like ‘chimney’s :)
Then, ZARAK CAME….ZARAK SAW…..ZARAK CONQUERED!
Today, Zarak Afridi played like Shahid Afridi (for the record, our Afridi is more consistent than Shahid Afridi)
When Zarak started hitting sixes, Adnan joined the party. He started playing some great shots on the offside besides the big shots on the leg. Sandwiched between Zarak’s and Adnan’s onslaught, the ‘top ranked team’ looked pretty helpless. Their shoulders were down and they had defeat written all over their faces. Zarak’s 47 runs and Adnan’s 24 runs took the game away from Piccadily pacers. After Zarak and Adnan got out, Saami and Ali Hussaini were sent in to ‘clean up” the opposition. Ali, being Ali (his itch does not go away until he hits a six) hit a six when we needed only 2 or 3 runs to win. BayCC Reds wrapped up the game in 16 overs with the loss of only 3 wickets.
After this win, the captain was carried by the BayCC Reds players. The goal was to throw him up in the air, but after realizing that he is no “Katrina Kaif” and weighs quite a bit, the players put him down :)
Great captaincy by Imran today. He used his resources well and kept the opposition in check.
We had gone into this game as under dogs but came out as winners. The teams that were playing next were shocked to hear that BayCC Reds had beaten Piccadily Pacers. One of the players termed our win as “interesting”.
On to the next one now……here is wishing good luck to BayCC ……Blues and Reds…….

BayCC Reds played and won their first game of the SRCA tournament yesterday. The game was against the team ranked number 6 in the tournament, Challengers. Batting first, BayCC Reds scored 73 runs in 20 overs and then bowled the Challengers out for 62 runs in 19 overs.

Now the details:
BayCC Reds lost the toss….a bad toss to lose because the Challengers asked us to bat on a cold, foggy and wet morning. Kareem and Fayyaz opened for BayCC Reds. The Challenger bowling, as expected, was excellent. They kept the bowling tight and gave away only 4 runs in the first 4 overs, which were the power play overs.

By Azher Abbasi

The unbeaten streak of Champions was broken by the men in blue thunderously. In boxing terms its called a knock out!. Blues after winning the toss elected to field as they almost always do. Azher returning to the fold after a long layoff spearheaded the dangerous bowling attack that blues are so famous for. With the first over without a score there was energy and spark on the field. You know energy is high when Anis Bhai is diving left and right :) Parvinder from the other end delivered a tight second over, with only couple of runs scored. The mastery of the bowling should read like this there were three bowlers under the economy rate of 2 (Azher 1.75, Shakir 1.75 and unbelievably Faraz at miserly 1) Shakir one of the best closers picked up 3 wickets. By the time 19th over came around Champions were already in the club house with 42 on the board. No doubt bowlers did their job now it was up to the batsmen.

Blues decided to go for the attack and gain as many additional points as possible. Bilal the wall and Ali the striker opened the inning and what an opening it was, Bilal took to the bowlers from the word go and cleared them for 7 runs in the first over. When Champions claimed the wicket of Bilal there were howls and screams, a loud growl came in with some comments. Unfortunately Ali heard those comments and launched into an attack that General Norman Schwartzkoff would be proud of. Ali scoring 18 runs from 16 balls with one fantastic flick that he picked off of his legs and cleared the Square Leg boundary for Six. Humza the young blood, launched into his own attack and scored 12 off of only 10 balls with the help of two 4’s. Ali and Raza cleaned up what was left at the beginning of the 7th over.

Blues left Champions in the daze and immediately sent a wire to SRCA which read, “down but not out, caution at full strength” signed Da Blues :)

RED WIN - What Incredible News:)

Reds defeated Twenty20 by 4 runs…a close match but what a match for Reds! I am not sure I can give a very colorful commentary of the events as Parvinder can but following is the update of yesterdays BayCC Reds Match against Twenty20 -

Batting - Reds won the toss and decided to bat first..and as usual Zarak & Imran gave a very good start to the innings and we were 25/1 in 6 overs and 37/2 in 10 overs….but not everything is perfect so the middle order collapsed only to resuscitated by late surge of Adnan, Rasim and excellent batting by Latief in the end to make sure Reds had a respectable/defendable total of 73 in 20 overs.

Zarak - 22, Imran & Tanvir - 6, Ali & Sami - 5, Adnan- 8, Rasim - 5 & Latief - 12

Bowling - Incredible start by the bowling attack by Imran, Latief, Saami, Ali, Adnan & Zarak - Twenty20 were reeling in 10 overs for 20 runs and 5 down…at this point we really thought we had the game and could be going home early…but drama is always there in any Blues & Reds match…

11th, 12th & 13th overs we became a little lax and relented 19 runs in 3 overs to give hope to the Twenty20 team and we did not take a wicket until 15th over when Ali made an excellent breakthrough and at this point the score was 44/6 but still it goes on….

Drama prevailed and continued until the 18th over when they needed 11 runs in 12 balls….Ali bowled an excellent 19th over took a wicket and gave only 3 runs 66/8..

Last over…Adnan has nerves and is ready to go…8 runs needed (2 wickets needed by Reds)…excellent start to the over (1 . W Y N 1 W)….got the wicket and then nerves starting showing on both teams 4 runs needed in 3 balls and at last we got an excellent throw from Zarak..Adnan collects and RUN OUT! ALL OUT…..Reds clinch a deserved victory but made it more painful on ourself then necessary….but the WIN is what counts….

Bowling all round was excellent - Imran, Latief, Saami, Zarak, Ali, Adnan, Fayaz…but the pick of the bowlers was definitely Ali with his crucial 16 and 19 overs!

MOM - Zarak for his 22 runs in 24 balls with 2 crucial catches and 1 runout!

Congrats to REDS on excellent WIN;) Cricbay Points - 10 !

Excellent Team effort - lets savor this moment and enjoy especially Imran (Reds Captain) - Relax for the week until Friday:) - before it all begins next weekend another game another positive update….:)

ZK over and out….please make any comments and commentary if I missed anything!

Reposting Parvindar’s email:

By the “special powers” vested in me (VICE-CAPTAIN) , over-riding the Baycc Management, I have decided to introduce a new rule with immediate effect. :))

The rule: All Baycc members who did not (and in future do not) show up yesterday in   “Baycc only” matches get the punishment of “public flogging / lashes”. The same applies to members who leave the field before the match is over.

Number of lashes: Minimum 5 lashes each if less than or equal to 5 members breaking  the rule. Greater than 5 members, each rule breaking member gets the same number of lashes as the total number of members not showing up.

How many did ‘I’ get : All the records (members versus number of lashes) will be maintained on “http://mybaycc. com”.

When: Next Baycc club event.

Way to avoid the lashes: Get a note from home, acknowledging the folly and “He will not be doing this again…” Mind you this will be confirmed, not accepted “as is”.

Any way’s…  moving on…

Another great day of Baycc with cricket although gloomy weather (like some of you who said Yes or abstained from voting at all, did not show up)was playing spoilt-sport with us, nevertheless we continued on..

Arrival scene – Some members standing on the side coolly just cracking jokes…

Some making effort to organize, mark the crease.

Anis bhai in particular, was seen very animated and excited with the spray  marker while marking the crease.

Atif & Imran bargaining over the team splits..

Others more interested only in batting and bowling on the side.

Members were split in 2 teams unevenly as usual between Atif and Imran. Amazingly Imran was found with a weaker team or was that a perception…

Atif and his team batted first… reaching a total of 76 in 16 overs due to some good running between the wickets in addition to couple of 4’s and 6’s (  thanks to bad bowling  mostly)..

While most of the team members were having a ball of a time, cracking jokes, Atif record was stuck on “be serious guys..”  .. after every 2 overs Atif would go “be serious guys” …

Imran’s team started very poorly loosing quick wickets early on.

The Man of the hour, Ali (not our ‘DEER’ Manager)… gave a scare to the opposition with some good hits and running between the wickets, pushing the score in the vicinity of winning the match.

As Ali went on a rampage, Atif’s pitch seemed increasing “be serious guys”..

Oddly, during batting, Imran’s other team members who were also fielding could not field properly or complete the catches when their team members were batting . :))

But as we have learnt from past experience, a score of anything above 60, needs contribution of more than 1 batsman and for the same reason Imran’s team was short of 20 runs.

Thanks,

-Parvinder.
